FAQ

How did Costa Boat come about?

Costa Boats have undergone an extensive development and testing program. We wanted seaworthy boats with high performance, fuel economy, flexibility of use, ease of maintenance, yacht quality components and finish. Our collaboration with Costa Rica's professional fisherman, working together with boat building experts from two continents, has produced impressive results.

Costa Boats are a refinement of a classic Japanese designed commercial fishing boat. They can carry very heavy loads and still be extremely miserly with fuel consumption due to the fact that they can easily be pushed even with very small outboard motors.

What kind of construction technique is used?

Costa Boats have very strong hulls utilizing a fiberglass sandwich construction technique that precisely mates a durable one-piece flotation foam filled molded stringer with a molded interior liner. This assures a yacht quality finish and the rigidity necessary for a safe, stable and seaworthy vessel.

Is the boat safe in the ocean or is it only for inland waters?

With their high freeboard and load carrying ability, Costa Boats are designed for the ocean and equipped with large fuel tank to provide the range required to navigate long distances.

Handling characteristics?

It's like a sports car! Seriously, Costa Boats track straight and true, yet turn on a dime. Well maybe that's a small exaggeration, however these boats have a surprisingly tight turning radius combined with plenty of "get up and go" that makes for a very exciting ride.

How much water do I need under the keel?

Less than 12" draft* allows Costa Boats to go virtually anywhere. While there is no substitute for prudence, minimal draft makes sand bars, submerged rocks and reefs, shallow water in estuaries, marinas or anywhere else you want to go, much easier to navigate. *unloaded hull only without motors

How should they be powered?

There is an extensive variety of outboard motors available today. The engine mounting well is wide enough to easily install two motors. How much power you'll want depends on how you plan to use the boat and, while of course it is up to you, we will gladly provide you information from our tests with a variety of motors and setups.

If you prefer the I/O setup that's fine because we offer an optional set-up that comes with a special I/O motor mounting pad and uncluttered transom.

Are trim tabs required?

No, the Costa Boats' hull planes so easily that trim tabs are unnecessary complications.

What about comfort?

With their progressive-V hull and anti-splash chines, Costa Boats slice through the water and give passengers a dry and stable ride. The clean uncluttered cockpit makes it easy to move about onboard.

Whether you prefer a sporty T-Top, Bimini or a full length boat shade, there are a variety of sun protection and seating options to comfortably accommodate all passengers.

Can it be used for diving, or is it just for fishing?

The new Costa Boats are a rugged multi-purpose vessels that can easily be set-up for a variety of uses. Depending on the model, we offer a variety of configurations for Sport Fishing, Water Sports, Scuba, Passengers, Family use, or as a Commercial Workboat, to be customized to fit individual requirements.

Are there special features for sport fishing?

Absolutely, we understand that even if fishing will not be the main use, few people can resist the urge to occasionally troll for a nice fresh fish dinner. Wide gunnels easily accommodate recessed pole holders and there is plenty of cockpit roam for several anglers. Our sport fishing version offers an array of amenities from live wells to insulated lockers.

Special diving features?

Fresh water rinse off, tank management, water entry/exit, sun protection, etc. We offer cockpit layouts and options to meet your needs.

What about equipment options?

We are experienced boating enthusiasts and we have tried to think of all the possible ways in which our boats can be used and have designed many components from control consoles and T-Tops to dive tank racks and swim platforms especially for the Costa Boats

Is the boat trailer able?

Costa Boats' low draft and narrow silhouette certainly makes it easier to navigate narrow highways and due to its light weight you won't need a tank to haul it to your favorite launch site.

Electrical?

Battery lockers, wiring harness, navigation lights, bilge pumps, cockpit lighting, etc.

Anchoring accommodations?

Covered anchor locker, mooring cleats, recessed docking cleats, etc.

What kind of finish does it have?

Precise hull/deck fit, yacht quality gel coat, top quality hardware and upholstery combines with a very attractive silhouette that makes for a handsome boat that is at home in even the classiest marinas.

Is it available in colors?

Yes, we offer various tones to suit your preference.
